A Watched Patch Never Patches

We’re all pretty much just waiting for 4.1 to drop at this point.

What to do, what to do…

Selfish Healer

I almost completely missed this interesting brain fart de Blizzard.

I was having a debate with a friend via e-mail about offhealing in raids and the usefulness of Selfless Healer and he said something like, “Oh, haven’t you heard about the change?” So I took a trip to MMO-Champion and found this gem:

Selfless Healer: The damage bonus from this talent now has a 30 sec duration instead of 10 sec.

Whoa. Just… whoa.

The weakness of Selfless Healer has always been it’s duration. A 12% damage buff is great, but for only 10 seconds? The math never supported it. But with a 30 second buff, you could rule the world…

After the shock of this buff set in, I began to question Blizzard’s intent. Having a 30 second SH buff would be like Inquisition, part deux; both have a 30 second maximum duration (barring four-piece tier bonus), both buff damage of some kind, both you’d want to keep a near-100% uptime on.

Would Blizzard really want us maintaining two separate damage buffs, both actively costing us Holy Power? Or better yet, would Blizzard want us to take the ‘selfless’ out of Selfless Healer? With a 20-second cooldown on WoG in 4.1, our heals are going to be even more sparse, so using it on a target that may not need it (say, a tank that’s getting bombed with heals) just so we can get our damage buff isn’t exactly chivalrous.

Anyway, I wake up this morning and see this:

Selfless Healer now lasts 10 sec, down from 30 sec.

Ha! My instincts were spot on. It’s good to be validated every once in a while.
